38. What was the Cumbrian Coast system?

4953321507_c3479df6fd_nAs with the milecastles and turrets of the Wall, there was a series of fortlets (known as milefortlets) and towers running down the Cumbrian Coast from Bowness, around the Cardurnock Peninsula and down to just beyond the fort at Maryport. Between Bowness and Maryport there was a fort at Beckfoot but there was no curtain wall or ditch linking any of these installations.
